I wouldn’t submerge it in water without adding (a lot of) additional waterproofing materials around the connection points, but it will protect it relatively well from your basic elements. There isn’t direct access to all the pins (again, trying to minimize environemental access points), but there is room internally for the Arduino to have a shield stacked on it, or have some smaller components connected to the pins. You could always drill out some holes if you need to run wires away from the enclosure.
